Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about More Like This — how the AI works, which categories we cover, and how your account and data are handled.

What is More Like This?

More Like This is an AI-powered product recommendation tool built for UK shoppers. Tell us a product you love — a whisky, gin, wine, chocolate, perfume, candle, book, or any of our 20+ categories — and we search UK retailer websites in real time to find three genuinely matched alternatives, each with a direct buy link and a precise reason for why it suits your taste. No guesswork, no generic lists.

How is this different from asking ChatGPT or Google?

General AI tools and search engines draw on training data or index pages — they can't explain precisely why a specific product matches your taste, and they're not anchored to what's actually available to buy in the UK today. More Like This uses Claude AI with live web search against a curated list of UK retailers, and gives you a tailored reason for every pick. Your taste profile, category preferences, and search history make results sharper the more you use it.

How do I get started?

Go to the homepage, pick a category, and describe what you're looking for — a product you already enjoy, a style you want to explore, or simply what you're after. No account needed to get started. Results typically come back within 30 seconds.

Do I need to create an account?

No — you can search without signing up. A free account gives you 10 searches a month, saved picks, a tried-products list, a personalised taste profile, and personal birthday reminders. Pro gives you unlimited searches, photo search, family & friends taste profiles, and automated birthday and anniversary reminders for the people you buy for.

Do your product links include affiliate tags?

Yes. When you click through to buy a product, your link may include an affiliate tag — this means we receive a small commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you. We never recommend a product because it earns commission; recommendations are determined entirely by AI based on your taste. Affiliate income helps keep the core tool free.

How does the AI find recommendations?

We use Claude AI with real-time web search. Claude analyses what makes your chosen product distinctive — its flavour profile, style, region, production method, or character — then searches our curated network of UK retailers to find genuinely similar alternatives. Every pick includes a 'why it matches' explanation so you can see the reasoning, not just the result.

What if I don't like one of the recommendations?

Tap the replace button on any card and we'll swap that pick for a different option without touching the others. You can do this as many times as you like on your current search.

What is the 'Heritage & story' section on each card?

Each recommendation card has a collapsible Heritage & story section. Expand it to see the brand's history, the product's origin, any notable fans, and a Did you know? fact. It's powered by Claude and cached — so it loads quickly on repeat visits.

Can I rate and review products I've bought?

Yes. You can leave a star rating (1–5) and optional tasting notes on any product. When a product has enough community ratings, an aggregate score badge appears on the recommendation card so other users can see how it's been received. Seven days after a search, we may email you a short review request for products you've bought.

What is a taste profile and how does it affect results?

A taste profile lets you rate your preferences across key flavour dimensions for a category — for example, Smoky, Sweet, Fruity, Spicy, Floral, and Nutty for whisky. Once set, those preferences are factored into every search in that category so results get sharper over time without you having to repeat yourself. You can view and edit your taste profile from your account page.

What are category preferences?

Within each category you can set three extra signals: your typical spend range, your experience level (new to it / regular buyer / enthusiast), and anything you want to avoid (e.g. 'no peat', 'nothing too sweet'). These are injected into every search in that category automatically — so you never have to mention them again.

What is sommelier mode?

A food and drink pairing tool. Tell us what you're cooking — a specific dish, cuisine, or ingredient — and we'll recommend wines, beers, or other drinks that complement it, with a precise explanation of why each one pairs well. It's particularly good at suggesting something interesting rather than the obvious choice.

What is the Cheese & Wine Pairing tool?

Tell us the cheese you have (or the wine you're opening) and we'll find three perfectly matched counterparts — each with a tasting-chemistry explanation of why the pairing works. You can also upload a photo of your bottle or cheeseboard and we'll identify it before searching. The tool covers all styles — from a grippy Barolo with aged Comté to a Blanc de Blancs with Brie de Meaux.

What is Perfect Night In?

A curated evening planner. A short questionnaire asks about your drink for the evening, your chocolate preference, whether you'd like a book or a video game (and which genre or platform), and a candle scent. Based on your answers, our AI curates a full evening — one specific product in each category — chosen to complement each other. Every element can be picked up from Amazon with next-day delivery.

What is the Gift Finder?

Choose an occasion, describe who the gift is for — their relationship to you, their tastes, what they enjoy — and pick a category. Our AI searches UK retailers and returns three thoughtful options, each with a reason for why it suits that person. It works for any occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Father's Day, thank-you gifts, and everything in between.

Can it help with last-minute gifts?

Yes — choose 'Last Minute' as your occasion and we only return products with confirmed next-day delivery. The AI includes 'next day delivery' in every search query, visits each product page to verify the delivery badge and order cut-off time, and we run an independent server-side check as a backstop. The cut-off time is shown in the result so you know exactly when to order.

Which product categories do you cover?

Whisky (Scotch and world whisky), gin, rum, red wine, white wine, rosé, Champagne and sparkling wine, beer, cider, bourbon, mezcal, port, chocolate, coffee, tea, cheese, fragrance and perfume, skincare, hair care, candles, flowers, books, board games, and video games. New categories are added regularly — if there's something you'd like to see, get in touch.

Which UK retailers do you search?

We search Amazon UK across most categories — it gives us the broadest, most reliably in-stock range with fast delivery. For cheese, we search specialist cheesemongers including Paxton & Whitfield and Butler's Cheeses alongside Amazon. For flowers, we search Interflora, Bloom & Wild, and Moonpig. An 'Explore more' link at the bottom of your results takes you directly to The Whisky Exchange for spirits and wine, and other specialist retailers for other categories.

Can you recommend whisky alternatives?

Whisky is one of our core categories. Whether you love Glenfiddich 12, Laphroaig 10, Talisker, The Macallan, or any Scotch single malt or blend, we'll find three matched alternatives from UK retailers. We cover all Scottish regions — Speyside, Islay, Highland, Campbeltown, Lowland — as well as Japanese, Irish, American, and other world whiskies.

Can you find alternatives to gin, wine, rum, and other spirits?

Yes. For gin we cover classic London Drys, contemporary styles, and navy strength. For wine we cover reds, whites, rosé, and Champagne. For rum we cover aged, agricole, and spiced styles. Bourbon, cognac, mezcal, and port are all supported too. Each spirit and wine category has its own curated search guidance to make sure Claude picks on the right dimensions.

Do you cover video games?

Yes — we find games that share the design DNA of one you already love: the same mechanical feel, pacing, narrative weight, and tone, not just the same genre label. You can filter by platform (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One) and we explicitly won't suggest the next game in the same series — we assume you've already played it.

What's free and what requires Pro?

No account? You get 3 searches a month across all categories. A free account gives you 10 searches a month, saved picks, your search history, a personalised taste profile, and personal birthday reminders. Pro unlocks unlimited searches, photo search, a fragrance dupe finder, family & friends taste profiles, and automated birthday and anniversary reminders for the people you buy for. See our pricing page for current rates.

What are birthday reminders?

Free accounts can set their own birthday so we can remind you of your special day. Pro accounts can also save the people they regularly buy for — name, birthday, preferred category, and any notes — and seven days before each birthday we'll email you three AI-curated gift ideas with direct links to UK retailers.

Can I see what I've already tried?

Yes — from your account you can mark any product as 'tried'. Once something is in your tried list, it won't appear in future recommendations for that category. It's a useful way to stop being recommended things you've already been through and nudge results towards genuine discoveries.

Can I cancel my Pro subscription at any time?

Yes. Manage or cancel from your account page at any time. Your Pro access stays active until the end of the billing period — there's no immediate cut-off.

Is my data safe?

We don't sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing. Search queries help us improve recommendations. Full details are in our privacy policy.
